About Laura Jean Shannon

Laura Jean Shannon or LJ, as she is known by her peers, is a Specialty Costume Designer with a focus on Superhero’s and other sci/fi & fantasy characters.

She brings her knowledge of unconventional designs and construction principles to Specialty Character development in Film and TV projects from the course of her 30 plus year career. Along with her amazing teams, LJ develops practically built mechanized, illuminated and fully functional creations.

LJ serves as the Super Hero Costume Designer and Associate Producer on Amazon’s hit shows THE BOYS and GEN V as well as the
highly anticipated origin story, VOUGHT RISING.

Her most recent work includes the Robots on critically acclaimed MURDERBOT as well as Specialty Characters in RED ONE. Collaborating with Director Jake Kasdan and Star Dwayne Johnson again as she did Costume Designing the smash hit “JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE” and the forthcoming 3rd installment of the JUMANJI franchise.

LJ has enjoyed helping realize the overall vision for several other TV projects including the feminist period drama GOOD GIRLS REVOLT, the Science Fiction anthology PHILLIP K. DICK: ELECTRIC DREAMS and the pilots for PREACHER and FUTUREMAN.

Laura Jean is a voting member of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and the Television Academy, an honor she takes
very seriously come Oscar and Emmy time.

Shannon holds IATSE membership on both coasts with The Costume Design Guild, Local 892 in Los Angeles and United Scenic Artists, Local 829 in NYC. Laura Jean (LJ) Shannon enjoys working all over the globe and calls a farm in central New York her home, which she shares with her wonderful family, human, furry and feathered.
