How are ‘Geddon guests chosen?

From Baldur’s Gate to the halls where Wildcats prowl, the guest line-up for the Springeddon covers a vast number of fandoms - but what goes into building that line-up?

The selection process for celebrity guests at shows across Aotearoa has been cultivated over the past three decades, and often varies according to trends.

Armageddon Expo founder and organiser Bill Geradts says the current guest schedule for the Labour Weekend show has been in the works since last year.

“It takes months of planning to pull together the guest line-up for each show, but the Auckland shows are a different beast because they are so big. This particular line-up has been a journey of hard work and time,” he says.

“Since we started this event, we’ve made countless overseas and local contacts, hosted and re-hosted hundreds of celebrity guests, and stayed on top of trends to make sure the guest line-up for each show is stellar.”

The booking process for each show varies, he says, and keeping your eyes open to opportunities is essential.

“Like many aspects of the event industry, networking and building relationships is at the heart of our guest booking process.”

“Some guests we have managed to book through sheer luck and perfect timing - filming schedules or travel plans lining up, and so on - but most are secured as a result of extensive research, contact building, negotiating, and a reputation that precedes us.”

Bill says the line-up for this October is the biggest in the event’s history, with some real show-stopping names including Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian), Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical) and more!
